Hi! My name is Adrienne & I’m in charge of http://cracktheplates.com, a vegan food and hospitality blog. My sweetheart Nate runs its dizygotic twin, http://chiptheglasses.com, where he focuses on open source technology & doing interesting artsy things with it, like writing a Burroughsesque cut-up poetry generator. Our names come from one of many songs of the dwarves in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. (We’re both kind of obsessed with the 1977 Rankin-Bass animated TV movie.)
I’m currently finishing up my Master’s degree in (technically) Christian theology at Earlham School of Religion, though my thesis topic has to do with interfaith dialogue & community-building. I am a proud supporter of the Interfaith Youth Core, an organization that inspires young people from diverse faith & humanist or philosophical backgrounds to come together to work for the common good. I’m one of those young people! Co-founder Eboo Patel is a faith hero of mine.
My politics are progressive and my posts are usually about food. Happily living without flesh or animal “products” for almost eleven years, I have come to see how living vegan is one of the most effective things I can do to nurture my own body and my relationships to other humans, non-human animals, & the environment. And the food is fabulous!
Cat Unix (variously called Ra-ra, Unixera, wickidera, and worse) makes guest appearances occasionally.
